Throughout the Islamic world, it is a tradition to greet road-weary travelers and guests with a refreshing sprinkle of rosewater or orange blossom water.

Vintage Moroccan Blue Cobalt Glass Rose Water, Perfume Bottle with metal overlay. It has a long metal top spout that unscrews (I haven’t been able to open it) so the bottle can be filled to pour the perfume or rose water into this little luxe bottle.

Measures: 30.00 cm x 3.00 cm approx.

The shorter brown glass example is filled with what I believe to be henna powder or another pigment powder used for cosmetics. This bottle I was able to open easily. Measures: 6.00 inches x 2.00 inches approx.

Handcrafted Moroccan glass perfume bottle with raised embossed metal over blue glass. The pressed glass bottles in Art Deco, Art Nouveau style are rectangular and oval shape and hand decorated with embossed metal silvered overlay. Handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco by skilled artisans that used recycle perfume bottles and add the metal overlay, each perfume bottle is unique and one of a kind. For a very long time until today, Moroccans have used perfume bottles as receptacles for rose water or essential oils that purified, toned up and calmed them down.

These hand-made bottles, although not massively produced, come in a variety of shapes and colors. They are beautifully made of ceramic, glass or resin, and are decorated mostly with crafted metal or silver (filigree).

The colors used for such bottles are mainly red, yellow, blue, and green. As to the glass ones, the ideal color for them, set to protect the perfume within against ultra-violets, is blue.

The bottles can also be used for interior fragrances that will fill the house with exquisite aromas for many days. Even empty, these bottles can be used as art objects for home decoration.
