This wonderful polychrome terracotta statue is simply a stunning replica of the classical first centuries mythology Greek sculptures. We believe this statue to depict either Zeus or Pythagoras. His thick hair is arranged in corkscrew curls or braids that are wrapped around the top of his head.
 
He has a full beard and mustache and wonderful deep articulated eyes. The piece is signed on the back and has its original stamp. The artist is however not known to me nor is the exact age, we do estimate it to be around 1920’s or earlier due to the patination and its previous owner..
 
It stands on a wooden base and is in very good condition considering it’s age. Measures: 14.00 inches tall and 9.00 inches at its widest.
 
Zeus, Greek mythology: Zeus was king of the Greek gods. He was also father to several other gods, demigods, and heroes. Some of his children were Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Hebe, Hephaestus, Ares, Eileithyia, Enyo, Persephone, Hermes, Dionysus, Pursues, and Hercules. Zeus provided order in the universe, was god of the sky, thunder and lightning, and is depicted as a strong man with a beard.
 
Even though he has the form of a man, in several stories Zeus transforms into different animals.
