This SASAK Anthropomorphic piece is very old and interesting rare find. A small container from the Sasak people of Lombok island, Indonesia. This sitting nude male figure with one leg up contains a small storage space on the top which was most probably plugged by another piece to close the top. It is carved from water buffalo horn. The base is plugged with a hard wood. Its precise function is unknown but it is likely that it had some magical purpose relating to fertility or ancestry as you can also see his large male genital parts.
 
The piece measures: 7.50 inches tall. An extraordinary piece of art from an extraordinary people.
