This is a natural hard stone, small hand carved stylized sensei entwined in a dragon, possibly made as a talisman, which we date to the late 19th century. This piece is made from natural hard stone that is mainly a dark brown coloring with some shades of a russet color.
Please see the images. The piece is well hand worked, with the carver capturing the essence of the wise man and dragon. (Possibly depicting a scene from Ryujin folk lore) The carving has been worked and polished and has a very smooth tactile finish.
It measures: 2.75 inches or 7.00 cm high and 2.00 inches or 5.00 cm at its widest.
