Extraordinary antique early 19th century French triple tea caddy box. Appears to be rosewood decorated with satinwood inlay, including the word ‘Thé’ French for tea and "Sucre" French for sugar. The front of the box has with a diamond shaped cartouche, that holds a working lock and key. Opening to reveal a red velvet and satin lined fitted interior (Satin not in good shape).
Housing three porcelaine de paris canisters. The trio comprises of two stoppered tea canisters and a lidded container for storing sugar or ideal for creating a melange with tea leaves out of the other two bottles. Each of rectangular form with canted corners. All three porcelain canisters are hand painted with and enhanced with gold gilt accents. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Some scratches/scuffing to the wood surface at the front and lid, the back of the caddy with touch-up repairs to the inlay as shown. One small chip to the sugar canister lid in a corner (see photo) which does not disturb the overall beauty of the piece. Further no chips or cracks to the porcelain tea canisters.
Tea caddy box measures 9.50” length x 4.5” width x 6 .0” tall. And sits on four ball feet. It is decorated with brass fittings The porcelain tea canisters measures 4.5” height x 3 5/8" length x 2 3/4" width.
